Article: The school of the Future

As we can all plainly see, the schools we grew up with no longer exist. Technology is becoming more and more essential. According to this article, "Technology has changed the emphasis to the learning of kids rather than the teaching of kids." Teachers can assess student learning through portfolios and creative performance tasks. The article does go on to say that the use of computer is only an means.
I still believe that students cannot only rely on computers to learn. Students need peer and adult interaction to be successful in today's society. They need to learn cooperation and social skills. They can't learn that from a computer!

I agree that students today need more than computers in order to learn. Social skills and ways of interaction are a must. Who says that we must give up the old ways of teaching when news ones come along? Can the two forms not be blended to allow an even better third option? Technology opens doors that were not available when I was a student and as a teacher I want to be able to provide the appropriate keys.

youareinarizonaFor young children, there are many more critical skills to focus on in lieu of tecnology. As you stated social skills are on of those. I think when kids spend too much time engaged in technology it can interfere with their social skill development. Kids need a balance both at home and at school.
